New Delhi: Heavy rain lashed Delhi early on Friday, leaving roads in the national capital flooded and a part of the roof of Delhi airport's Terminal 1 collapsed.

Safdarjung weather station recorded 153.7 mm rainfall, which started around 3 am.

People posted videos and pictures on social media of flooded roads and vehicles stuck in long traffic jams.

In a post on X, the traffic police said, "Traffic affected on Outer Ring Road in both carriageways from Shantivan towards ISBT and vice versa due to waterlogging near Y-Point Salimgarh and Nigambodh Ghat. Please plan your journey accordingly "

Due to waterlogging, traffic was also affected at ITO, Veer Banda Bairagi Marg, Dhaula Kuan.

The India Meteorological Department defines very heavy rainfall as rainfall between 124.5 and 244.4 mm in a day.

One person died and five were injured in a ceiling collapse incident at Delhi airport, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said.
