New Delhi: India's industrial output grew 5.9 per cent in May this year mainly due to good performance by the mining and power sectors, according to official data released on Friday.

Factory output, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), witnessed a growth of 5.7 per cent in May 2023.

India's industrial production index grew by 5.9 percent in May 2024, an official statement said.

Data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) showed that manufacturing sector output declined to 4.6 percent in May 2024, from 6.3 percent in the same month a year ago.

In May this year, mining production increased by 6.6 percent and electricity generation increased by 13.7 percent.

IIP grew by 5.4 per cent during April-May this financial year, compared to 5.1 per cent in the year-ago period.
