Kolkata: BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh has been appointed the new chief whip of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, officials said on Tuesday.

This announcement comes after the resignation of BJP MLA Manoj Tigga, who was elected MP from Alipurduar, leaving the post of Chief Whip vacant.

Ghosh, who represents the Siliguri constituency, and is serving his first term as an MLA, joined the BJP from the CPI(M) ahead of the 2021 assembly elections.

He is known for his close relationship with Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.
