Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday approached the Election Commission (EC) accusing BJP candidate for Puri Lok Sabha constituency Sambi Patra of distributing watches with saffron party symbols and high-end photos to shopkeepers ahead of the elections.

The BJD delegation led by Rajya Sabha member Sulta Dev has submitted a petition in this regard to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha.

BJD alleged in its petition, “It has come to our notice that Sambit Patra and his campaign team have resorted to gross misconduct by distributing watches emblazoned with the BJP logo lotus and even Patra's photograph. "

Calling Patra's move a blatant attempt to influence voters and a clear violation of the model code of conduct, the BJD said, "We strongly condemn such condemnable actions of Patra and his team. It is necessary that immediate and strict action be taken." Let it be done."To rectify this situation, the Election Commission will ensure that the sanctity of the electoral process remains intact."

The party demanded that the total cost of all these watches should be added to the expenses of the BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Puri.

Regional party leaders urged the Election Commission to take prompt and decisive action against Sambit Patra and his campaign team.

In another petition filed before the Election Commission during the day, BJD alleged that Odisha BJP leaders and candidates are intimidating and intimidating government officials on election duty in Odisha by misusing the name of the commission.

BJD sought intervention of the Election Commission to protect government officials on election duty from such threats by BJP leaders.Reacting to BJD's allegations, Odisha BJP leader Biranchi Tripathi said the ruling party has moved the Election Commission only to save "corrupt" government officials without thinking about the people of Odisha.
