Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday launched a crackdown on vendors selling tobacco products near schools and colleges and seized 93.5 kg of such items.

In a release, the civic body said the F (North) ward office team conducted the raid and closed four establishments - a tobacco shop and three temporary shops.

The ward office formed two teams to conduct raids at various places, including MHADA Colony in Koka Nagar, Priyadarshini School, SK Royal School, Sadhna School in Shivaji Nagar, Ruia College and Podar College in Matunga, Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in five (VJTI). The BMC seized 93.5 kg of tobacco products, including cigarettes, beedis, gutkha and other tobacco-containing substances, the release said.
