Education officials from Chennai, Bihar on Monday participated in a workshop organized by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department on schemes to improve the quality of education and improve the learning skills of students.

According to a government press release, 'Pudhumai Pen Thittam' to encourage girl students to pursue higher education, to bridge the gap in learning, was among the plans taken up for discussion in an interactive meeting with district-level education officials of Bihar. The objective also included the 'Ilam Thedi Kalvi' scheme. It is said in the release issued here.

Twenty-seven officials from Bihar participated in the workshop on 6 May and about 10 officials participated in the sessions held earlier. The workshop began on April 22 and will conclude on May 24 and a total of five sessions are to be conducted on special initiatives of Tamil Nadu in the field of school education.

Around 250 officials from the northern state are set to participate in all the sessions.

The 'Ilam Thedi Kalvi' scheme addresses the learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic among students of classes 1 to 8 and a cash incentive of Rs 1,000 per month to each beneficiary is a key feature of Pudhumai Penn Thittam.

The release said that the Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme for school students, schools of excellence is one of the many initiatives taken by the school education department of the state government and all such initiatives were discussed.

School Education Department Director G Arivoli led the officials to brief their Bihar counterparts about the state's initiative.
