The protesters were demanding reinstatement in the education department. They gathered near Patna Zoo on Monday afternoon.

Since they were in large numbers and were unwilling to leave the place, the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse them.

“We were protesting on Bailey Road when the police arrived and started lathicharge without any warning. Most of the guest teachers were associated with the education department for 15 to 20 years. Now we are around 50. How will we get a job at this age?” One protester said.

Bihar government has dismissed the guest teachers and appointed new BPSC exam passed teachers. The District Magistrate's Office of the respective districts issued orders to remove the guest teachers.

Responding to the incident, Duty Magistrate YH Khan said that teachers were protesting near Patna Zoo which was wrong. The administration first warned them to vacate the place. When they did not move, a mild lathicharge was done. There is no news of anyone being seriously injured in this incident.

After the order of the state government, about 4200 guest teachers lost their jobs in Bihar. Since then, they have been continuously protesting demanding their reinstatement.
