He said the state has already screened around 29,000 people from Kaliachak in Malda district.

The official said that a four-year-old girl from the district was diagnosed with the disease in January and recovered after treatment.

He said a team comprising senior officials of the health department and some representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) had been constituted for another round of assessment of the situation in the state.

"There is not a single case of bird flu in West Bengal. The only case was reported in Kaliachak in Malda district in January when a four-year-old girl was diagnosed with the disease. She is fine now and we are keeping an eye on her. Are." His health,” the health department official said.

"Subsequently, we screened around 29,000 people from that area of ​​the district and did not find a single case. There is not a single case of bird flu in West Bengal now," he said.

The official said the girl belonged to a family that had a poultry farm at their residence, which could be the source of entry of the H9N2 virus into her system.

"We thoroughly tested every member of the girl's family, but no one was found to have the virus," he said. H9N2 bird flu virus is a subtype of avian influenza virus that is spread by direct contact with infected animals or indirect contact with contaminated environments.
