People enjoyed Mughlai delicacies besides sweets like 'Sevai' and 'Kheer', while the poor received generous donations.

However, an atmosphere of gloom prevails in the Azhar Mulla Bagan area of ​​the city's Garden Reach, where 12 people were killed when an under-construction building collapsed on March 17.

"Unlike previous years, we are not celebrating the festival in a grand manner and are only praying for the dead, who were our neighbors and friends. This time no Gran Community feast has been organized in our neighbourhood," Resident Shamim Begum said the area, said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted the people on this occasion.

"My warm wishes to everyone on this joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. May this Eid bring happiness, peace and prosperity to all," he said in a post on X.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
