The deceased's mother claimed that her son had gone for some work on a two-wheeler and was resting under a tree while returning. An earthmover machine was standing nearby.

The incident was preceded by deadly attacks on two youths accused of stealing mobile phones in Kolkata and nearby Salt Lake on June 28 and 29 respectively.
