Mumbai, Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole on Thursday demanded that the crop insurance policy of the state government should be made farmer friendly.

Speaking to reporters, he claimed that there is drought in many parts of the state including Marathwada, but farmers are not getting any help.

"Crop insurance companies are filling their pockets at the cost of farmers' lives. The state government is favoring crop insurance companies. The website of the Revenue Department is still not working, and if any farmer does not register on this site , then he cannot avail the benefits of crop insurance,” the Congress leader said.

He said the current "exploitative" crop insurance policy should be made "farmer-friendly".

Patole claimed that four farmers are committing suicide every day in Maharashtra and these incidents have not stopped even during the ongoing session of the Maharashtra Legislature.

He alleged that Congress has demanded complete loan waiver for farmers, but the Eknath Shinde-led government is anti-farmer.

Patole also claimed that OBC students have not been getting scholarships for the last five years, and accused the BJP-led government of depriving OBC children of education as well as ruining agriculture.

Referring to the Indian team's victory parade in Mumbai after its victory in the T20 Cricket World Cup, he claimed that despite the municipal corporation-run BEST having its own open buses, a bus was brought from Gujarat for the occasion.
