In New Delhi [India], Opposition Rajya Sabha leader and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the opposition demands a special discussion on the issue of NEET exam in the House.

"Under Article 267, we demand a special debate on this matter in the House and after that we will put forward our demands," Kharge told reporters on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Kharge sparked a row by entering the well of the House with other MPs to attract the Speaker's "attention" as he demanded a discussion on the NEET issue.

Talking to ANI upon entering the well of the House, the Rajya Sabha LoP said: "It's his (Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar's) mistake... I entered to get his attention. But even then he was not looking.. .I was attracting attention. He was just looking at the ruling party. When I called his attention according to the rules, he should look at me, but instead, he deliberately ignored me to insult me. So what was left for me to draw attention to? shout very loudly. So I will definitely say that it is President Sahab's mistake. I say he should not do this and he should maintain the dignity of this Rajya Sabha..."

On the importance of having a discussion on the NEET dispute, Kharge said, "There have been such big scams, NEET exams, the paper was leaked, thousands of children are worried. So to draw attention to people's problem, we asked "For a specific discussion we didn't want to bother anyone, we just wanted to raise the students' problems... But he didn't give it a chance, he didn't even pay attention to it and that's why we had to do it."

The opposition continued its strident discourse over alleged irregularities in the NEET exam on Friday with Congress and other parties demanding a debate in the House.

Since the government insisted on completing the motion of thanks to the presidential address first, both Houses were adjourned and the Lok Sabha was adjourned till Monday, July 1, at 11 am.

Expressing surprise over Kharge's entry into the well of the House, Deputy Speaker Jagdeep Dhankar said: "Honourable members, today the history of the Indian Parliament has been so tarnished that the leader of the opposition himself has reached the well. This has never happened. "It hurts me, it surprises me. "Indian parliamentary tradition will deteriorate to such an extent that the leader of the opposition will come out fine, the deputy leader will come out fine."

No business took place in the Lower House as the opposition remained firm in its demand for a debate on NEETs.
