Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], to provide better facilities to cancer patients, an agreement (MoU) has been concluded between Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Center, Lanka (MPMMCC) and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. Lahartara (HBCH) on Saturday.

Under this, NCL will provide necessary financial assistance for the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment in both hospitals, which will also help in upgrading and strengthening existing facilities and augmenting some new facilities.

Notably, since the inauguration, more than 1 lakh cancer patients have been registered in the units of Tata Memorial Centre, Varanasi, MPMMCC and HBCH. Keeping in mind the increasing number of patients, the hospital is making continuous efforts to increase patient facilities at the institute.

In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between NCL, MPMMCC and HBCH on Saturday, according to which NCL will provide Rs. 14.49 crore for hospital management under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

With this amount, new and ultra-modern equipment will be purchased in the Laboratory, Radiology, Transfusion Medicine and CSSD departments of the hospital.

On this occasion, Coal Ministry Additional Secretary Rupinder Brar, NCL CMD B Sairam, Varanasi Development Director Manish Kumar, Coal Ministry Joint Director Himanshu Nagpal, CSR Department Head NCL Satinder Kumar, Managing Director, Rakesh Kumar Singh Cancer Hospital Gautam and Public Relations Officer Akhilesh Pandey Biresh Choubey were present.

Hospital Director Satyajit Pradhan said MPMMCC and HBCH are moving forward by keeping the three core principles of Tata Memorial Center i.e. service, education and research at the centre.

"We are grateful to NCL for supporting us in Tata Memorial Center's fight against cancer. This agreement will bring together two units of Tata Memorial Centre, MPMMCC and HBCH in Varanasi and NCL. As the relationship between the two strengthens, the service to humanity will also be strengthened," he stated.

"The funds received under CSR will not only increase the facilities for cancer patients visiting the hospital but also strengthen the current services. Our aim is to provide quality and state-of-the-art treatment to cancer patients of Uttar Pradesh and the neighboring states at the Tata Memorial Centre. Varanasi, so that patients do not have to travel to other cities and states for treatment and can have the convenience of receiving treatment close to home," he added.

It is worth mentioning that NCL is a subsidiary of Singrauli-based Coal India Limited, which plays an important role in the country's energy security by producing over 135 million tonnes of coal.

Last year, NCL gave new dimensions to health, education, skill development, employment generation, promotion of sports and welfare of persons with disabilities by spending Rs 157.87 crore under the CSR.
