Thane: Police have arrested two people for allegedly extorting money from two transgenders who were begging outside a railway station in Navi Mumbai and trying to kill them. An official provided this information on Wednesday.

He said that the arrest was made late Tuesday night.

Based on the complaint of one of the victims, the police registered a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 384 (extortion), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). FIR registered against three people. 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention), Rabale MIDC police station official said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Yogesh alias Parshuram Neelkant (32) and Prateek Kamble (21), he said, adding that the search for the third accused is ongoing.

According to the complaint, on the afternoon of June 2, two transgenders were begging on the road outside Ghansoli railway station when the three accused threatened one of them and demanded money for allowing them to beg in the area.

The three accused allegedly abused and assaulted one of the victims and attacked him with iron rods and knives, leaving him seriously injured. He told that when the other transgender ran to save her friend, she was also attacked.

Both of them got treatment at a hospital and later filed a complaint.
