The defamation suit was filed following Gokhale's continuous tweets accusing Puri of buying disproportionate assets in Switzerland. He also took the name of Hardeep Puri in the tweet.

According to a statement issued by solicitors Pharm Karanjawala & Co, representing Puri, Gokhale has been restrained from publishing further defamatory material against the plaintiff.

The court held that Gokhale's defamatory statements had caused irreparable harm to the plaintiff. It also directed Gokhale to publish an apology to the former diplomat within a month on The Times of India and the Should last till.

Reacting to the development, Lakshmi Puri said in a post on X: “This is what justice feels like! Grateful and honest! Not only for me, my husband @HardeepPuri, my family and friends, but on behalf of all those who have been victims of such despicable attacks on social media! From now on, there will be accountability for anyone making false and damaging allegations!”
