Heavy rains accompanied by strong thunderstorms wreaked havoc in many districts including the state capital Hyderabad.

The impact of severe cyclonic storm Remal in the Bay of Bengal resulted in thunderstorms and rain that killed 13 people, uprooted trees, damaged power and communication towers and disrupted transportation and power supply.

Seven deaths occurred in Nagarkurnool district alone. Four deaths were reported from different parts of Hyderabad and two from Medak.

The strong storm left a trail of devastation in Nagarkurnool, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Medchal Malkajgiri and Nalgonda districts.

Four people, including a father and daughter, died when an under-construction poultry shed collapsed in Tandoor village in Nagarkurnool district. Farmer Malles (38), his daughter Anusha (12), construction workers Chennamma (38) and Ramudu (36) died and four others were injured in the incident.

Three other deaths were reported from the same district. Two of them died due to lightning.

Two people lost their lives when a tree fell on them while they were riding a motorcycle in Shamirpet on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The deceased have been identified as Dhananjay (44) and Nagireddy Rami Reddy (56).

In Hyderabad's Hafeezpet area, Mohammed Rasheed (45) and Mohammed Samad (3) died when bricks from the roof of a neighbour's house fell on them due to a strong thunderstorm.

Rain accompanied by thunderstorm also affected Mahabubnagar, Jogulamba-Gadwal, Wanaparthy Yadadri-Bhongir, Sangareddy and Vikarabad districts.

Power supply was disrupted at many places as transmission and distribution lines were broken, tree branches fell on power lines, poles were damaged and uprooted.

At some places, hoardings, cell towers and debris also fell on roads and houses.
