A special team was formed by the Raipur Rural Police in Raipur, Chhattisgarh to investigate the death of two cattle transporters, whose relatives claimed it was the result of a brutal mob attack.

Two cattle transporters were killed and another seriously injured after they were allegedly chased by a mob in Arnag police station limits early Friday. The deceased were identified as Chand Mia and Guddu Khan and the injured were identified as Saddam Khan, all from Uttar Pradesh.

In a statement issued during the day, police said a 14-member special team has been formed under the leadership of Raipur Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Kirtan Rathod to investigate the case and arrest the accused.

It said that Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Sanjay Singh, City Superintendent of Police (Mana Area) Lambodar Patel and Cyber ​​Cell in-charge Paresh Pandey are part of the team.Arang police registered an FIR under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified accused in connection with the case late on Friday night.

In the FIR, complainant Shohaib Khan said that Chand informed him over phone that when the trio were going from Mahasamund towards Arang in a truck loaded with cattle (buffaloes), some people on motorcycles and other vehicles followed them.

It said that after one of the tires of the truck burst, the people who were chasing the trio started abusing and beating them.

Quoting the complaint, the FIR said that Chand told Shohaib that he and his two other associates had suffered injuries and were not in a condition to walk.

Police sources said that some suspects are being interrogated in the case.ASP (Raipur Rural) Kirtan Rathod had said on Friday that as per preliminary investigation, the trio were going from Mahasamund towards Raipur with animals, when some people followed the vehicle.

"Of the three people, one was found dead and the other two were in critical condition. They were admitted to the hospital where one of them succumbed to his injuries. The truck, which was later found on the bridge, has been seized and the animals Has been shifted to the cowshed,” the ASP had said.

The ASP had also said that "as of now" there is no evidence that this is a case of mob murder.However, speaking to reporters on Friday, complainant Shohaib, who is a cousin of Chand and Saddam, had said that the mob had attacked three people.

He claimed that he had received a call from Chand, who said that Saddam had called his friend Mohsin while he was being attacked.

Shohaib claimed, "Chand told me that he was being attacked by the mob. But before he could give any details, the call got disconnected."

In a second call made to Mohsin lasting 47 minutes, Saddam can be heard saying that his arms and legs were broken, he said.Shohaib told reporters on Friday, "Saddam can be heard pleading with his attackers to spare him. I believe he kept his phone in his pocket when Saddam was calling (Mohsin)." And it never disconnected, so everything could be heard clearly."
