Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President YS Sharmila on Monday questioned why NDA's 'kingmaker' and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was not opening his mouth on the issue of special category status (SCS) to the state.

Sharmila demanded that the TDP supremo should answer the people for maintaining silence on SCS.

Sharmila said in a press release, “Nitish Kumar resolved the demand of SCS for Bihar and put it before Modi (Prime Minister Narendra Modi), but Naidu is not even opening his mouth on SCS for AP (Andhra Pradesh). "

Reminding that Naidu is the 'kingmaker' of the NDA government at the Centre, he asked whether he 'doesn't know' that capital-less state Andhra Pradesh is 'more backward than Bihar'.

"Don't you remember the days of demanding 15 years of SCS status and you (Naidu) yourself said that the state has gone back by 20 years," Sharmila said.

Further, he wondered why the Chief Minister was not 'threatening' the Center to withdraw support if it did not grant SCS to the southern state.

The Andhra Pradesh Congress chief advised Naidu to adopt a resolution in the Legislative Assembly for SCS and place that demand before the Centre.

Sharmila said SCS is the only way for the development of the southern state, but not a special package.
