Virtually addressing the first ASEAN Future Forum initiated and hosted by Vietnam, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said the regional grouping remains an "important pillar" in New Delhi's broader Indo-Pacific vision.

This brings to the fore the extremely important role of ASEAN and India in dealing with the realities of the emerging world order. This underlines the need for greater cooperation and Coordination between India and ASEAN,” the External Affairs Minister said in his remarks at the inaugural session of the Forum titled ‘Towards Rapid Sustainable Development of a People-Centric ASEAN Community’.

He noted that India and ASEAN are neighbours, sharing millennium-old culture and civilizational ties, the relationship now entering its fourth decade, maturing into a comprehensive strategic partnership based on shared values ​​and common aspirations. Is.He also reminded that during India's G20 presidency last year, Delhi had hosted the Voice of the Global South summit with the participation of several ASEAN member states.

Jaishankar said, "We support ASEAN unity, ASEAN centrality and the ASEAN perspective on the Indo-Pacific. India truly believes that a strong and integrated ASEAN can play a constructive role in the emerging regional architecture of the Indo-Pacific."

The Minister said that the synergy between India's Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), which is reflected in the ASEAN-India Leaders' Joint Statement, provides a strong framework for cooperation , which also includes solutions to the challenges. “We held the first ASEAN-India maritime exercise in 2023 and we aim to hold the second edition at a mutually convenient date.Our recent operations in the Rii Sea have provided crew protection and support and evacuation, including to ASEAN member countries.

Earlier, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Horn highlighted the role of the ASEAN Future Forum as a platform for ASEAN and its partners to share new ideas and policy recommendations.

He stressed the timeliness of convening such a forum to think about what comes next, especially at a time when ASEAN is working on the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and formulating its strategic plans.
