New Delhi: Warning against the disruptive forces conspiring to weaken democracy and create rift in the society, President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday said that new methods and means are needed to deal with this challenge.

Addressing a joint sitting of Parliament, Murmu said that there is a need to find new ways to deal with the challenges of spreading misinformation and rumours.

He said, "In this era of communication revolution, disruptive forces are conspiring to weaken democracy and create rift in the society. These forces are present within the country and are also working from outside the country."

Murmu said that such disruptive forces mislead people by spreading rumours.

“This situation cannot be allowed to continue unchecked,” he said, adding that India has expressed concern over the misuse of technology against humanity at global forums.

The President said, "Today technology is advancing every day. In such a situation, its misuse against humanity can be extremely harmful. India has also expressed these concerns in international forums and advocated a global framework."

“It is our responsibility to stop this trend and find new ways and means to deal with this challenge,” Murmu said.
