Kolkata: Facing the regular problem of returning the exact amount of cash change at the counters, the Kolkata Metro Railway is bringing in digital payment mode for its passengers on one of its corridors that connects the city with Howrah railway station, an official said on Tuesday. Said to.

Unified Payment Interface (UPI) based ticketing system will be introduced in the East-West Metro Corridor (Green Line).

Once this system becomes a reality, passengers will not have to deposit extra fare in currency notes and coins at metro ticket counters, the official said.

Metro Railway officials are going to launch the UPI-based ticketing system with the help of State Bank of India and Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

Metro Railway General Manager on Tuesday tested the new payment system by purchasing tickets himself with the help of this system at Sealdah station of East-West Metro.

Once the trials are completed, this ticketing system will be introduced in the East-West Metro (Green Line), the spokesperson said.

To avail this facility, passengers have to mention the name of the destination station and scan the QR code displayed on the display board at the ticket counter and make the payment with the help of their smartphone.

After receiving the payment, QR code based paper tickets will be generated and passengers will be able to travel with that ticket.

With the help of this system, passengers will be able to recharge their smart cards in the same way.

After the successful implementation of this ticketing system in the Green Line, this facility will be extended to other corridors – the oldest Dakshineswar-New Garia corridor, the Ruby-New Garia corridor and the Joka-Tartala section.
