Kota (Rajasthan): A 43-year-old maid, who was trapped in the lift of a multi-storey apartment here for about 45 minutes, died after falling from the third floor of the building to the basement during a rescue operation. ,

The police registered a case of culpable homicide and handed over the body to the relatives after postmortem on Friday morning, a day after the incident.

The deceased woman was identified as Rukmanibai (43), resident of Shyam Nagar under RK Puram police station area of ​​the city.

When the maid was returning home on Thursday afternoon, she got stuck in the lift of the building due to power cut. Some women present on the same floor heard her scream for help and ran to save her.

During the women's rescue operation, the maid lost her balance and fell on the basement filled with rain water. He was immediately taken out of the basement and sent to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Family members and relatives of the deceased accused the apartment owners of negligence and demonstrated with the body at the RK Puram police station on Friday morning, demanding monetary compensation. However, after assurance of compensation as per government norms they agreed to take the body for cremation.

DSP Manish Sharma said the police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the three owners of the apartment building, Mahesh Kumar, Vinod Kumar and Pawan Kumar.
