New Delhi: The makers of "Kalki 2898 AD" on Sunday unveiled megastar Amitabh Bachchan's character of Ashwatthama, immortal archer and Lord Shiva devotee in the much-awaited film.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, the multilingual big-budget sci-fi film also stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan. It is produced by Ashwini Dutt O Vyjayanti Movies.

A clip featuring Bachchan as Ashwatthama was aired on TV channel Star Sports ahead of Sunday evening's IPL 2024 match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

In the video, a child can be seen asking the mysterious character who he is.

In his deep baritone voice, the man – covered in bandages and carrying a bow in his hands – introduces himself.

He says, "Since the last era, I have been waiting for the arrival of Dashavatara. Ashvatthama, son of Guru Drona."

Earlier in the day, Bachchan described working on the magnum opus as "an experience for me like no other."

He wrote, "The brains behind such a product, the implementation, the display of modern technology and above all the company of associates with stratospheric super state presence..(sic)".

According to the makers, "Kalki 2898 AD", which was greenlit as "Project K" in 2020, promises to take audiences to a world never seen before in Indian cinema.

The film starring Disha Patani will release worldwide on May 9.
