Accordingly, CNG price will increase from Rs 73.50 per kg to Rs 75 per kg, and domestic PNG rate will increase from Rs 47 per scm to Rs 48 per scm inclusive of all taxes for Mumbai and surrounding areas.

The latest increase is attributed to meeting the increasing volume of CNG-PNG demand and reduction in domestic gas allocation, with MGL meeting additional requirements from market priced natural gas.

The new amendment will impact over one million vehicle owners using CNG and around 25 lakh families getting PNG supply to their homes.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on March 6, CNG price was cut by Rs 2.50 per kg and on October 2, 2023, PNG prices were also cut by Rs 2 per scm.

MGL claimed that despite the latest hike, its CNG offers savings of 50 per cent and 17 per cent compared to petrol and diesel prices respectively, and its rates for both CNG-PNG are the lowest in the country.
