Thane, Three people have been arrested for allegedly harassing people on the pretext of debt recovery in Maharashtra's Thane district. The police gave this information on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, police had received complaints of abusive and obscene phone calls from loan sharks, an official said.

After investigation, the Anti-Extortion Cell of Thane Crime Branch arrested Rahul Kumar Tilakdhari Dubey (33), a representative of a telecom company, who had allegedly issued SIM cards under the names of customers without their knowledge, loan recovery. Information was provided for the call. Centre, Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime, Shivraj Patil said.

Police also raided a call center in Bhayandar and arrested Shubham Kalicharan Ojha (29) and Amit Mangala Pathak (33), he said.

The duo had allegedly entered into agreements with several financial institutions, the officer said.

He said police have seized electronic devices including hard disks, a GSM gateway and mobile phones.

The officer said that the three accused were sent to police custody till July 10.

Thane city police commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre urged citizens to report harassment or abusive language by debt collection agents to their local police station.
