Hyderabad: “Some sections have not been able to avail the benefits of reservation in SC or ST,” NHRC Chairman Justice (retd) Arun Kumar Mishra said on Friday.

Addressing the graduation ceremony of Kautilya School of Public Policy here, Mishra said reservation is a very effective tool for the emancipation of the oppressed classes.

"...(despite 75 years of independence) it has not been possible till now to extend the benefits of reservation to the lower classes. There is inequality among different castes in the list of SC/ST. The benefits of this reservation are currently being grabbed by those people. Those who are socially adequately represented in the services are being taken and some sections have not been able to avail the benefits of reservation in SC or ST at all,'' he said.He said, "Therefore, through affirmative action, it is our duty to provide the benefits of reservation to those who are still deprived of it and to achieve the vision of Developing India 2047, it is necessary that they also come forward." Come."

She said the Constitution mandates the formation of a Uniform Civil Code under Article 44, which is necessary to eliminate discrimination against women.

She said that to empower women, all forms of discrimination against women on the basis of gender should be eliminated, especially with regard to education, employment, inheritance and property.

He said that the time has come to define the parameters of gender equality.

He said that women should enjoy social equality, better status and participation in economic development, which is being ensured by providing them reservation in elections.He said that the future of the country depends on the young generation and the rights of children and adolescents should be especially protected from exploitation, moral and material abandonment.

They should be given opportunities and facilities for healthy development with freedom and dignity, he said.

Justice Mishra said that India's rich history is marked by a remarkable legacy of providing refuge and assistance to displaced communities across the world.

In ancient times, India emerged as a sanctuary for persecuted groups seeking solace and security. He said diverse communities from Bene Israel Jews to Pharisees and from Greeks to Syrian Christians, Bangladeshis to Rohingyas have received a welcoming embrace within India's borders.He said NHRC has increasingly focused on emerging areas like cyber rights, mental health, environment, transgender rights, welfare of truck drivers, mechanical cleaning of septic tanks/sewers and providing safety equipment to workers.
