Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], In a proactive move aimed at ensuring the safety of school children, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department, following the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will launch a massive inspection drive.

Starting from July 8, the initiative will focus on verifying the fitness, permits, insurance, pollution compliance and other necessary credentials of the vehicles employed to ferry students to and from schools.

Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Daya Shankar Singh said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Transport Department to prepare a district-wise list of vehicles operated in schools. Transport Department officials should ensure verification of registered school vehicles.

He directed that separate lists of 'fit' and 'unfit' vehicles be prepared and a meeting be held with school managements and vehicle owners to ensure compliance with the standards.

The Transport Minister said that it has come to his notice that in most of the districts of the state, vehicles are being operated in violation of standards without fitness certificate or without being registered/contracted in the name of the school. With the consent of schools and parents, children are being sent to school in Maruti vans, Tata Magic, autos and e-rickshaws, which is a violation of motor vehicle rules. Enforcement teams will launch a campaign to take action against such people.

State Transport Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Singh said that 100 percent compliance of the instructions given by the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister will be ensured.

He also said that all the enforcement officers have been instructed to start the campaign from July 8. By running a campaign for about a fortnight, the fitness, permits and other documents of school vehicles will be checked and action will be taken against them. The operations are being carried out in violation of rules.
