Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand) [India], Ten people were killed and 13 injured after a tempo traveler fell into a deep gorge on Badrinath Highway in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand on Saturday.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police officials immediately reached the spot for rescue operations.

Officials said that four of the injured have suffered serious injuries and are undergoing treatment.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the deaths in the accident and said seriously injured passengers were being airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh.

He said, "Instructions have been given to the concerned authorities for better treatment of the injured."

The bus was going from Noida to Rudraprayag when it fell into a 150 meter deep gorge.

Magisterial inquiry into the incident has been ordered.

Garhwal IG KS Nagnyal told ANI that the local administration, residents and SDRF are engaged in rescue and relief operations.

"The tempo traveler was on its way from Noida to Rudraprayag when it fell into a 150-metre deep gorge. The number of tourists traveling is not clear yet. We have recovered eight bodies and nine people have been taken to hospital. The driver also sustained serious injuries,'' he said.

He said that complete information about the passengers would be available only after the rescue operation is completed.

In a post on Instagram, Dhami expressed condolences over the loss of life and property in the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

He said, "The local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The injured have been sent to the nearest medical center for treatment."
