Agartala: Two people, including an ONGC employee, have been arrested from West Tripura district for their alleged involvement in a fuel theft case. Police gave this information on Sunday.

He said the arrested persons – a “stock holder” of ONGC fuel station, Badarghat and a driver recruited through an agency – are currently in judicial custody.

The duo were arrested after ONGC officials lodged an FIR alleging that around 620 liters of diesel was stolen from a fuel station inside its premises in Badarghat.

Ranjit Debnath, officer-in-charge (OC) of Amtali police station, said that based on the complaint, a police team visited the ONGC premises and arrested both the accused.

“After completing three days of police remand, he was sent to judicial custody. We suspect that more people are involved in the case.”

Debnath said a report has also been sought from the company's material manager to find out how much fuel was stolen.

“The theft must have been happening for a long time. We are investigating the matter thoroughly.”
