"We had 97 road incidents, with about 161 injuries and 48 deaths," Tolonews quoted Mokhtar as saying on Sunday.

Poor road conditions, reckless driving and lack of safety measures while traveling are among the reasons for fatal road accidents in the war-torn country, reports Xinhua news agency.

This year's Eid al-Adha holiday, which ended on Friday, in Afghanistan was initially announced to last for three days, but was later extended to five days.

During the four-day Eid al-Fitr holidays in April, 50 people were killed and 185 others were injured in road accidents across Afghanistan.
