Assam (Guwahati) [India], Railway Protection Force (RPF) has recovered smuggled goods worth over Rs 1.22 crore from different locations of Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) during the period from 1 to 15 June 2024.

The RPF also arrested 15 people for their alleged involvement in transporting contraband or smuggled goods during this period. Furthermore, the FPR of N. F. Railway regularly conducts drives to check the menace of touts. In recent checks and raids conducted in the area from June 1 to June 15, the RPF detained five touts and recovered train tickets worth more than Rs. 90,000 of them.

Sabyasachi De, CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway, said that during January-May 2024, RPF of N. F. Railway recovered contraband and smuggled goods worth more than Rs. 16.21 crore and arrested 217 people for their involvement in smuggling of goods.

"Furthermore, 119 touts were also arrested by the RPF of NFR and recovered railway tickets worth more than Rs 21.98 lakh during this period. All the arrested persons were booked under relevant section of the Railway Act" said Sabyasachi De.

He further said that in a recent incident on June 13, 2024, RPF and Guwahati GRP conducted checks on Train No. 15817 DN (Donyi Polo Express) at Guwahati Railway Station.

"During checking, two persons were detained and 89 grams of jaggery worth Rs 17.80 lakhs (approximately) were recovered from the train. Later, the arrested persons along with the recovered jaggery were handed over to OC/GRP/Guwahati for necessary legal formalities. Furthermore, in an incident that occurred on June 9, 2024, the Kishanganj RPF team and the New Jalpaiguri CIB team jointly carried out a raid and search operation at the PRS counter of the Aluabari Road railway station. During the raid, the team recovered 21 PRS Tickets, worth around Rs 55,223 and a reseller was arrested in this regard, a case was registered under section 143 of the Act. of Railways to take further measures," Sabyasachi De said.
