New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday claimed that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has become "irrelevant" and said the Constitution, democracy and society do not need the RSS or its chief Mohan Bhagwat as they can protect themselves. .

This statement of the opposition party comes after Bhagwat's comments on several issues including Manipur violence and the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Congress media and publicity chief Pawan Khera said, "Mohan Bhagwat ji, you will reap what you sow. The fault is not of the soil, it is the fault of the gardener."

“When farmers were facing the weather and the police just outside the capital, you were silent. When a Dalit girl was raped and murdered in Hathras, you were silent. When Bilkis Bano's rapists were released and your ideological brothers welcomed them, Kheda said about Bhagwat, "You were silent when Dalits were being urinated on. When Pehlu Khan and Akhlaq were murdered, You were silent."

“Your silence and Narendra Modi have made you and the Sangh irrelevant. You have been made irrelevant by Amit Shah and the BJP.You had the last chance when BJP leaders were talking about changing the Constitution, you should have spoken but you remained silent,” the Congress leader said.

“What is the use of speaking now?” Kheda added.

He asserted that the Constitution, democracy and this society do not need RSS or Bhagwat as they can "protect and reboot" themselves.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also targeted Bhagwat and posted a Hindi couplet of Kabir on X - "Karta raha so kyun kiya, ab kari kyun pachtaye, boye pedh babool ka, amua kahan se paye" (AAP's Loosely translated, 'you reap what you sow')."

Bhagwat on Monday expressed concern over the lack of peace in Manipur even after a year and said the situation in the conflict-torn north-eastern state should be considered on priority.Addressing a gathering of RSS trainees at the concluding program of the organization's 'Karyaka Vikas Varg-II' at Dr. Hedgewar Smriti Bhawan complex in Reshimbagh, Nagpur, he said that conflict in different places and society is not good.

Bhagwat stressed on unity among all communities in the country, saying it is very diverse, although people understand that it is one and not separate.

He stressed the need to rise above election rhetoric and focus on the problems facing the country.

Speaking about the recently held Lok Sabha elections, Bhagwat said that the results have come and a government has been formed, so unnecessary discussions on what and how it happened etc. can be avoided.

The RSS does not indulge in discussions like "how did it happen, what happened", he said, adding that the organization only does its duty to create awareness on the need for voting.Bhagwat stressed the need for consensus between the ruling party and the opposition to work for the common good (of the public).

The RSS chief said there are always two sides in elections but there should be dignity in not resorting to lies to win.

He said, lies were spread using technology (an apparent reference to deepfakes etc.).
