Palghar: A 21-year-old tribal man was arrested from Palghar district for allegedly marrying a 16-year-old girl, who died due to pregnancy complications earlier this month, police said on Sunday.

Police said that accused Jayesh Misal and the girl, resident of Moranada village of Mokhada, got married on March 29 after a love affair.

"The victim died at Mokhada Rural Hospital on June 6 due to pregnancy-related complications. An FIR was registered against Misal under sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act after DNA testing of the fetus was done," an official said.

Apart from Misal, the police have registered a case against 10 people including her family members and others.

On precedent there are sections 376(2)n (repeated rape of the same woman) and section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 8 of the POCSO Act. Allegations have been made under. Also various sections of Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006.
