Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena on Tuesday said 70 per cent or 3.03 lakh of the 4.3 lakh postal ballot voters have availed the facility of simultaneous voting in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

The CEO said that out of the 4.3 lakh eligible employees and voters who applied for this facility, 3.2 lakh were employees, 40,000 policemen, 28,000 eligible persons from household voting category, 31,000 essential services category voters and other sector officials.

Addressing a press conference at the secretariat, Meena said, "However, some employees could not use the postal ballot option due to various reasons and for them we have made arrangements on the spot at their respective convenience centers on Tuesday and Wednesday."

Meena observed that those employees who had not availed the postal ballot facility till now also need not worry as arrangements have been made on the spot with their respective returning officers.

If the police officers deployed for security arrangements for VVIPs are unable to cast their votes, Meena said they will be given a chance on May 9, the last date for the postal ballot process.He warned that employees who succumb to temptation while voting through post ballot will be dealt with sternly, which will include punishing both the person giving the bribe as well as the employees taking the bribe.

According to Meena, four people were arrested for distributing money to postal ballot voters in Tadepalligudem in Ves Godavari district.

Similarly, a constable in Anantapur has been suspended for roaming around with a list of employees and distributing money, while in Ongole some people were identified for distributing cash through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) route. Is.

Taking serious note of this development, the Election Commission directed the local Superintendent of Police to conduct a comprehensive investigation which resulted in some preliminary information, identification of call data, bank transactions of eight employees.

Elections for the 175-member assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats of Andhra Pradesh are to be held on May 13 and the counting of votes will take place on June 4.
