Houston: A 23-year-old Indian student in the US state of California has been missing since last week and police have sought the public's help in finding her, the latest case in the country as the community grapples with such incidents involving students. ,

According to police, Nithisha Kandula, a student of California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), went missing on May 28.

She was last seen in Los Angeles and was reported missing on May 30, CSUSB Police Chief John Gutierrez said in a post on Sunday.

Police said, "#MissingPersonAlert: California State University, San Bernardino Police along with our partners in the #LAPD, @CSUSBNews are asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Nithisha Kandula to contact us: (909 ) 537-5165.”

Police said in a written statement that Kandula was described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds (72.5 kilograms), with black hair and black eyes.According to the statement, she was possibly driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla with California license plates, unknown color.

Urging people with information about his whereabouts to contact authorities, police said, "Anyone with information should contact the CSUSB Police Department at (909) 538-7777, or the LAPD's Southwest Division at (213 ) are urged to contact 485-2582.”

Last month, 26-year-old Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakind was reported missing in Chicago.

Earlier in April, a 25-year-old Indian student, missing since March, was found dead in the US city of Cleveland. Mohammad Abdul Arfat, a resident of Nacharam, Hyderabad, had reached America in May last year to pursue Masters in IT from Cleveland University.In March, Amarnath Ghosh, a 34-year-old trained classical dancer from India, was shot dead in St. Louis, Missouri.

Sameer Kamath, a 23-year-old Indian-American student at Purdue University, was found dead in a conservation area in Indiana on February 5.

On February 2, Vivek Taneja, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive, suffered life-threatening injuries during an attack outside a restaurant in Washington.

In January, Akul Dhawan, an 18-year-old University of Illinois student, was found unconscious outside a campus building. The investigation revealed that his death was caused by hypothermia, with officials ruling that acute alcohol intoxication and prolonged exposure to extremely cold temperatures significantly contributed to his death.
