Vasavan said it is going to be a historic day for the state as the first phase of the port is ready.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited (APSEZ) Karan Adani will be present on the occasion.

"This port will be the largest in the country and will be ranked 6th or 7th globally. Currently, a 3,000 meter breakwater and 800 meter container berth are ready. All but one of the required 32 cranes have arrived. 1.7 km The approach road for connectivity is almost complete, while office buildings, security areas and power lines are all ready,” Vasavan said.

"The first mother ship is coming with about 2,000 containers. After that, smaller ships will also come with cargo and this will be a regular feature from then on," he said.

Other features of this port are that it is the country's first semi-automated container terminal and will also be a global bunkering hub, supplying clean and green fuels like hydrogen and ammonia. Full commercial operations at the port are expected to begin in a few months.

Vasavan also said that the second and third phases of the project are planned to be completed in 2028 and it will be one of the greenest ports in the world. The port is also strategically located as it is just 10 nautical miles from the international shipping route connecting Europe, the Persian Gulf and the Far East.
