Taruba [Trinidad and Tobago], New Zealand's star speedster Trent Boult confirmed that the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be his last appearance for the Blackcaps in the extraordinary tournament.

"Speaking on my own behalf, this will be my last T20 World Cup. That's all I have to say," Boult said in a press conference, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Overall, his performance in the T20 World Cup has been excellent. He ranks second among the top ten all-time wicket-takers of the tournament with 32 wickets in 17 matches and an economy rate of 6.07.

Bolt, now 34, has made only intermittent appearances for New Zealand's international teams since being released from his central contract nearly two years ago.If this is his final T20 World Cup, the world might have seen him in his final ODI World Cup as well; The next T20 World Cup is scheduled for 2026, but the next ODI World Cup is only scheduled for next year.

Since his debut in 2011, Boult has been an integral part of New Zealand's golden era, appearing in multiple finals across all three formats. Additionally, the left-arm pacer has featured in four T20 World Cups since 2014.

Boult's future with New Zealand is uncertain as he opts out of the central contract in 2022, preferring to play T20 franchise cricket around the world.

Although New Zealand failed to progress to the Super 8s of the tournament, Boult still has to play in the T20 World Cup final against Papua New Guinea on Monday. The confirmation that Boult will miss the second T20 World Cup highlights the future of New Zealand's aging line-up. When the club returns home, only three players in this team will be under the age of 30. Only star batsman Rachin Ravindra (24), Finn Allen (25) and all-rounder Glenn Phillips (27)

The star pace duo of Boult and Tim Southee have played impressive roles in several campaigns for the Blackcaps.

After taking two wickets in four overs against Uganda, Bolt felt that there would be limited opportunities for the two to play together in the future.

“I look back on my partnership with Tim Southee with very fond memories. We bowled many overs together. I know the partnership very well, and obviously he is a great friend on and off the field. It was nice to step back in time a bit and see some swing bowling at the top, some great memories, and hopefully some more to come," he said.
