Kanpur (UP): Two people of a family and another person were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a car and a truck on the Kanpur-Sagar highway on Saturday, police said.
Police said the deceased have been identified as Habib (85), his daughter-in-law Husnaara (45), driver Pankaj Verma (34), all of whom were residents of Fatehpur district.
A family of four along with the driver was going towards Kanpur when the accident occurred near Madhavbagh in Bidhanu. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ravindra Kumar said Pankaj allegedly tried to overtake the truck and collided with it.
The victims were taken to the hospital where Habib, Husnara and Pankaj were declared dead, DCP Kumar said.
Habib's son Hashim (52) and his grandson Aman (20) were taken to Lala Lajpa Rai (LLR) Hospital, where their condition is said to be critical, he said.
He said that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway.
