New Delhi [India], India's horticulture production in 2023-24 is estimated at about 352.23 million tonnes, showing a decrease of about 32.51 lakh tonnes (0.91 per cent) compared to the final estimate for 2022-23.

According to the second estimate for 2023-24, vegetable production is likely to decline, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said in a release.

The production of onion, potato, brinjal and other vegetables is expected to decline, as was estimated in the second advance estimate for 2023-24.

Onion production is estimated to decline from 302.08 lakh tonnes last year to 242.12 lakh tonnes in 2023-24, which shows a decrease of about 60 lakh tonnes.

Fruit production is expected to reach 112.63 million tonnes, mainly driven by increase in the production of bananas, lemons/limes, mangoes, guavas and grapes.

Vegetable production is estimated to be around 204.96 million tonnes.

However, apple and pomegranate production is estimated to be lower than last year.

Vegetable production is estimated to be around 204.96 million tonnes with increase in production of bottle gourd, bitter gourd, cabbage, cauliflower and tomato.

Potato production is also expected to decline by about 34 lakh tonnes to about 567.62 lakh tonnes mainly due to lower production in Bihar and West Bengal.

In contrast, tomato production is expected to increase by 3.98 per cent to about 212.38 lakh tonnes in 2023-24 from about 204.25 lakh tonnes last year. This highlights the mixed trend in horticulture production of various crops in the country.
