Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday pulled up the Nalbari District Commissioner for serving lunch with "too many items" during the state cabinet meeting the previous day.

Sarma said instructions were issued for arranging simple vegetarian food, which were allegedly not followed by DC Vernali Deka.

"Despite repeated instructions from this office to arrange simple vegetarian food during the cabinet meeting held at Nalbari on 27/06/24, you have not followed the instructions," Sarma wrote to DECA.

"Rather, elaborate arrangements were made with lots of items," he said.

Expressing 'extreme displeasure', the CM said such instructions should be followed sincerely in future.

According to local media reports, the menu included several vegetarian dishes and a variety of fish and meat cooked with local ingredients.

The elaborate arrangements had already attracted public attention during Cabinet meetings held outside Dispur, prompting the Chief Minister to issue instructions for basic food and other provisions.

The Sarma-led cabinet has been holding meetings outside the capital on different occasions to take the government closer to the people.
