Shimla, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday said the state has released water for Delhi, but it will have to go to the national capital through Haryana.
The top court had earlier directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of surplus water to the national capital and Haryana to facilitate its flow, noting that the acute shortage of drinking water in Delhi was an "existential problem". "It's done.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Sukhu said, "We have released the water. We have asked the lawyers to inform the Supreme Court about this. The water that we have released... we are ready to give that water." Yes. There are no ifs and buts." ,
He said that the water has to go to Delhi via Haryana. “We have not stopped our water.”
He said he would also "collect information about those who have given false information to the Supreme Court."
