CHANDIGARH: Congress made significant gains in Haryana by winning three seats and is heading towards victory in two more seats, dealing a blow to the ruling BJP whose tally has dropped from ten to five seats in the state this year. Assembly elections are also to be held at the end of this year.

According to the latest results and trends data from the Election Commission, Kumari Shailaja (Sirsa) registered a big win for the Congress, while Deepender Singh Hooda (Rohtak) is also headed for a big win.

Among the BJP leaders, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is also heading towards a big victory from Karnal. BJP and Congress were going to win five seats each. In 2019, the saffron party had won all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state.However, candidates of JJP, which contested all ten seats, and INLD and BSP, which contested seven and nine seats respectively, suffered massive defeats and the deposits of their candidates were forfeited.

In the Karnal Assembly constituency, where the by-election was held, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was set to win by a huge margin after leading by 41,540 votes over Congress candidate Tarlochan Singh. Saini had replaced Khattar as Chief Minister as the Lok Sabha elections were announced. In March, barely a few days before, the party had changed its leadership.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda claimed that Congress's performance in the Lok Sabha elections in the state will impact the assembly elections to be held in October.

Hooda said the plight of farmers, Agneepath, unemployment, law and order and inflation were the major issues which the ruling BJP failed to address.This time, Congress has fielded candidates on nine seats, while its ally AAP is contesting from the Kurukshetra seat.

In the Lok Sabha seats, while Congress won Sirsa, Hisar and Sonipat, it was ahead in Ambala and Rohtak.

The BJP is set to win in Karnal, Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, Gurgaon, Kurukshetra and Faridabad. However, the BJP's vote share in the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana has declined from 58 percent in the 2019 general elections to more than 46 percent now.

On the other hand, as per the available data on seat results and trends, the Congress gained in vote share, which increased from 28.42 per cent in 2019 to 43.68 per cent.BJP has sitting MPs from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, Gurgaon and Faridabad. After initial hurdles in the early counting rounds over Congress rival Raj Babbar, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh managed to hold on to his Gurgaon seat, which he won for the fourth time in a row. Singh had also twice represented Mahendragarh, which later became the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency, from 2009.

Rao Inderjit had a lead of more than 73 thousand votes.

Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is headed for an easy victory from Karnal seat with an unassailable lead of 2,25,754 votes over Congress rival Divyanshu Budhiraja. Kumari Shailaja defeated her rival BJP's Ashok Tanwar by a margin of 2,68,497 votes, while Hisar Former Congress MP Jai Prakash defeated BJP's Ranjit Chautala by 63,381 votes from the seat.

In Rohtak, Deepender Singh Hooda is set to register the highest victory margin in the state by securing a lead of 3,42,834 votes over sitting BJP MP Arvind Sharma.Responding to his performance at the Karnal assembly seat, Chief Minister Saini said, 'This is the victory of the people of Haryana.' He also said that he thanks the people of Haryana for the way they participated in this festival of democracy and Strengthened democracy.

Regarding NDA's performance, he said, for the third time, people have approved the policies of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Saini said that the way Haryana has progressed under the leadership of Modi, it will continue to progress in the same way. On Congress snatching five seats from BJP, Bhupinder Hooda said that he has been saying that 'the wave is going in favor of Congress. Is.'

In Ambala constituency, sitting Congress MLA Varun Choudhary is set to win over his BJP rival Banto Kataria with a lead of 47,060 votes.Union minister Krishan Pal Gurjar, who is the sitting MP from Faridabad, is leading over Congress's Mahendra Pratap Singh by 1,72,914 votes. From Kurukshetra, BJP candidate Naveen Jindal, who was trailing for much of the day, was Aadmi Party (AAP) was set to win with a lead of 29,021 votes over rival Sushil Gupta.

Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala was also in the fray from Kurukshetra but was trailing. His party's candidates were also trailing in six other constituencies.

Similarly, candidates from the Jannayak Janata Party, whose alliance with the BJP ended in March, and the Bahujan Samaj Party were also trailing.Counting of votes began at 8 am amid tight security at 91 counting centres.
