Chandigarh, Haryana: Congress on Monday again said that the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government is in a "minority" and does not have the moral right to remain in power.

Speaking to reporters here in the evening after the Haryana Congress Legislature Party meeting, party leader Deepender Singh Hooda said if the "minority" government does not resign, the Governor should dismiss it and hold fresh elections.

He said, "We have been saying that the government is in minority because it does not have sufficient numbers. Three independent MLAs withdrew their support last month. They do not have the moral right to remain in power.,

Congress had earlier also demanded that the BJP government should resign on moral grounds and if they fail to do so, the Governor should take cognizance.

Hooda said, the government has not only lost its numbers in the Assembly but has also lost the trust of the public.

BJP currently has 41 MLAs in the assembly, whose effective strength is 88. The party also has the support of an independent and the lone MLA from Haryana Lokhit Party. In recent weeks, two JJP MLAs have openly supported it.

The CLP meeting was presided over by former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda.

The meeting took place in the backdrop of the recently held Lok Sabha elections. The party discussed the election results, in which the Congress wrested five of the 10 Lok Sabha seats from the ruling BJP in the state.

The party's preparations for the Haryana Assembly elections to be held in October were also discussed.

While the Aam Aadmi Party, which is part of the India Bloc, contested the Kurukshetra seat, which it lost, the Congress contested the remaining nine seats and won five.

On the question whether Congress will form an alliance with AAP for the assembly elections, Deepender Hooda said that the alliance is for the Lok Sabha elections.

He said, “This alliance was for the Lok Sabha elections.Congress is capable of conducting assembly elections on its own. We are strong in all 90 assembly constituencies and are capable of fighting on our own."

He also rejected Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's allegation that the former Congress government in the state had misled poor people by falsely promising them 100 square yard plots and other related facilities under the Mahatma Gandhi Gramin Basti Yojana.

“We had given plots to 3.92 lakh families and the process was going on (when Congress lost power). But this government betrayed the SCs, backward classes. They stopped our plan. During 10 years, he did not give the plot to even a single beneficiary. ,” Hooda said

He said, “Now, when the people of Haryana have shown them the mirror in the recently held Lok Sabha elections and when they are realizing their imminent defeat in the upcoming assembly elections, they are saying such things.,

Deependra Hooda also thanked the people of the state for voting for Congress in the Lok Sabha elections.
