United Nations, UN Chief Antonio Guterres is saddened by the death of Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Affairs Minister Hosseini Amir-Abdollahian and their aides in a helicopter crash.

The Secretary-General expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and to the Government and people of Iran.

A statement issued by the secretary-general's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Guterres was "saddened by the deaths" of Raisi, Amir-Abdullahian and their colleagues in a helicopter crash on 19 May.

Raisi, 63, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, 60, and several other officials were found dead on Monday, hours after their helicopter crashed in a foggy mountainous region in the country's northwest.
