Google's inclusion of Tulu takes advantage of advanced natural language processing (NLP) technology. This is a statistics-based method that relies on large amounts of data. For Tulu, approximately 2 million translated phrases, including nouns and verbs, were fed into the system, allowing the machine to progressively learn and improve its translations.
Tharanath Gatty Kapikad, President of the Karnataka State Tulu Academy, expressed satisfaction over the new global acclaim of the Tulu language and said that the people of Tuluva should make extensive use of this new global service and advance the literary heritage of the language tulu.
He said it is natural that there may be some misgivings when translating from one language to another. In such cases, he advised the Tuluvas to use the feedback button on Google Translate to correct those doubts.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily had been a strong supporter of inclusion of Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution and had led a delegation to meet various central leaders to include Tulu language in the eighth schedule .
