Goalpara: Bodies of two people missing after a boat capsized in Assam's Goalpara district were found on Friday, taking the death toll to five. Police gave this information.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while visiting the accident site and meeting the bereaved family, announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of each victim.

On Thursday, a small boat carrying about 20 people sank in flood waters at Simlitola under Rongjuli police station area, resulting in the death of five people. Three bodies were recovered the same day, while two others were found on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Gouranga Malakar, Uday Sarkar, Jeetu Karmakar, Prosenjit Saha and Sujan Malakar – all of them belonged to the same family.

Sarma said that people were returning after performing the last rites of Anjana Malakar when the accident occurred.

He said, "Five people died in the accident and all were relatives of Anjana Malakar. The entire village is mourning the deaths. We also visited the bereaved family and expressed our condolences."

CM said that the ex-gratia amount will be paid by the government.

"We learned that the bereaved family has sick members and they have also lost their source of income. We will see if we can help them more in the future," he said.

On allegations of negligence, he said, "The cremation ground is surrounded by water. We will look into the details later. There is no time now."
