New Delhi: Railways earned Rs 14,798.11 crore from freight traffic in June as against Rs 13,316.81 crore in the same month last year, an improvement of about 11.12 per cent.

"During the month of June 2024, a basic freight loading of 135.46 MT has been achieved against the loading of 123.06 MT in June 2023, an improvement of about 10.07 per cent over the previous year," the Railway Board said in the statement. "

It said freight revenue of Rs 14,798.11 crore was achieved in June as against freight revenue of Rs 13,316.81 crore in June 2023, an improvement of about 11.12 per cent over the previous year.

Railways imported 60.27 MT of coal, 8.82 MT of imported coal, 15.07 MT of iron ore, 5.36 MT of pig iron and finished steel, 7.56 MT of cement, 5.28 MT of clinker, 4.21 MT of food grains, Loading of 5.30 MT of fertilizer achieved. According to the Railway Ministry, during June this year, there was 4.18 MT in mineral oil, 6.97 MT in containers and the remaining 10.06 MT in other commodities.

"Adhering to the mantra of 'Hungry for Cargo', IR (Indian Railways) has made continuous efforts to improve ease of doing business as well as service delivery at competitive prices," the ministry said.

"The work of business development units supported by a customer-centric approach and prompt policy making helped the Railways achieve this significant achievement," it said.
