DCP (West) Karan Goyal said, the victim died due to burn injuries on Monday.

According to the police, they received a call at around 10.45 am that the victim was assaulted by a minor boy living in her neighborhood on Monday in a society located in Sector-107 area under Rajendra Park police station area.

The minor suspect came to the victim's house, while the victim's mother was at the suspect's house with her son for some work.

During their visit, the victim girl had gone to the toilet while the suspected minor allegedly tried to steal jewelery from the victim's house and when the victim girl caught the suspect in the act, she started screaming.

The suspect then allegedly pushed the girl onto a bed and strangled her before setting her on fire with the help of white naphthalene balls, an official privy to the case said.

However, neighbors reached the spot after hearing the girl's screams but by then the victim had reportedly died.

"We have arrested a minor in connection with the case. The stolen jewelery has also been recovered from outside the flat. The case is under investigation," Goyal said.
