An SUV caught fire near Angamaly, Kochi early Sunday, but no one was hurt as the passengers immediately got out of the vehicle when they saw smoke coming from the front.

An official of Angamaly Fire Station said that the incident occurred around 5.40 am.

"On receiving information about the fire, we immediately reached the spot and brought the fire under control," the officer said.

He told that the people traveling in the SUV were going to the hospital at the time of the incident.

The officer said that after seeing the smoke, the passengers immediately got out of the vehicle and ran towards a safe place, so no one was injured.

"Only the front part of the SUV was damaged in the fire. The fire did not enter the cabin of the vehicle," he said.

The official said the fire was likely caused by a short circuit in the engine area.

One person was burnt to death when his car caught fire near Konnad beach area in Kozhikode district on Friday.

The around 50-year-old man driving the car could not be saved by people in the area after the car caught fire as he reportedly could not unbuckle his seat belt.
