New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday said Indian constituents did not demand division of votes in the Assembly Speaker's election as they wanted to maintain the spirit of consensus and cooperation.

The opposition had fielded K Suresh as a joint candidate against the NDA's choice Om Birla, who was eventually elected Speaker for the third consecutive term.
